We're off to the Rose Bowl in West End on Thursday night for a special charity party with a touch of sparkle in aid of Hampshire autistic Society. There'll be plenty to see, lots of lovely bits to buy and eat and we'll be selling cupcakes and handing out tasty samples to boot... yum. We'll be donating 25p from every cupcake sold to the charity too so it'll be well worth popping along from 7pm.

We've been following the gossip about what's new in the world of cake since we set up Cupcake Dolly and seen the rise and rise of cupcakes, the rise and fall of macaroons and now it seems Whoopie pies are all the rage. We've sampled a good few Whoopie pies (for research purposes of course) but have been a little bit disappointed so we've invented our own version. Our blog has been a little quiet lately. That's partly due to the arrival of a small new member of the Cupcake Dolly team (welcome, baby Iris) and partly because we've been busy baking like mad for some lovely people's weddings...

One of our favourites was the giraffe themed wedding at Marwell, with scrummy chocolate and fudge cupcakes...

...and a fabulous giraffe print topper for the cupcake tower with a lovely chocolatey ribbon.

We've done 'pretty in pink...

...for a special day at Portsmouth Football club.

We've made cats and cars and lovely lilac hearts for a gorgous wedding in Wickham.

...And we've helped a few hen doos to go with a swing along the way.

Cupcake competition record...

We had a record number of entries into our February 'win cupcakes' competition. A whopping 245 to be exact, which compared to our usual 20 or so is indeed a miracle. For this, in part, we thank the Dorset Cereals 'Little Blog Awards' which we've been lucky enough to feature in (a point we're particularly pleased about because we LOVE all things Dorset, even though we never win their pesky 'Spin the Bottle' prize, however hard we try...) We did pick some extra names out of our full-to bursting hat this time around, so hopefully there'll be plenty of happy recipients this month. Thanks to everyone who entered. x

This week we made some special cakes for our new friends at Little Media who make the gorgeously glossy Baby Hampshire, Baby Surrey and Baby London magazines. They've got a stand at the big Baby Show at the Excell Centre in London this weekend, and they'll be handing out 400 of our mini samples to prospective magazine readers throughout the 3 day event. Radio Dolly

Yesterday afternoon we made our first radio appearance (in spirit if not in body). On Katie Martin's show on Radio Solent there was a chat about the Business Link/SEEDA project focusing on packaging efficiency and sustainability which we're involved with - and we were one of the case studies they talked about. With the help of the lovely Laurel from a.m.associates, we're developing some superb new boxes for our cupcakes so they'll always be delivered in tip-top condition, and we'll be doing our bit to reduce packaging waste too.

Just for fun we run a monthly competition from our website to win a box of our cupcakes. Usually we have a good handful of hungry entrants but in the last couple of days we've had an onslaught of a couple of hundred. That's good news for us, but does lessen the likelihood for competition hopefuls we're afraid so we'll make sure we keep popping you back into the hat for the rest of the year.
